A police K9 is primarily used for its superior sense of smell. However, a dog’s mere presence during tense encounters with suspects often results in compliance. Many times this can even prevent the use of deadly force and save lives.
The Charlottesville Police Department’s K9 Unit performs a valuable service for the department and the community. The city uses cross-trained Patrol/Narcotics dogs to assist the patrol division. These highly trained teams are certified in detecting narcotics, tracking and locating suspects and evidence, apprehending violent criminals, and handler protection.
100% of any donation that you make to the K9 Unit will go straight toward the care and equipment needs of the K9 dogs.
