The Charlottesville Police Foundation is an organization made up of caring community members who put officers in the best positions to succeed by bridging important funding gaps between the Charlottesville Police Department and the City of Charlottesville, and who work tirelessly to find ways to build bridges between the men and women of the CPD and the people they serve.
The events of this past year have made our job more important and more challenging. The effects of COVID-19 have swept through our daily lives and our private and public sector landscapes, increasing the very budgetary gaps we target. And, the tragic and high-profile cases that have dominated our headlines make the work we have to do to rebuild trust and understanding between our police department and its citizens even more vital.
We are very proud of the work we did in this difficult year. We responded to the pandemic in its early days by quickly and efficiently providing our officers with much-needed PPE. We continued our officer housing program, creating more opportunities for the men and women of the CPD to live in the communities we serve. We brought Halloween magic to more than 900 kids and families through our Charlottesville (Halloween) Night Out, a drive-through event at Charlottesville High School.
We head into 2021 focused on continuing to build bridges by funding programs that will help our officers take care of themselves and their community, including programs that help them thrive in a new era of policing; creating and supporting Citizen Police Academies that offer the public a unique window into the world of those who protect and serve them; offering a new series on policing that will engage and inform community members, and much more.
This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join our efforts by considering a gift to the Charlottesville Police Foundation as we work to serve our entire community.
