Since 2009, the Charlottesville Police Foundation has been sponsoring an annual Cops 4 Kids Day. Produced in tandem with the Boys & Girls Club, this fun-filled day provides an opportunity for children ages 5-18 to learn how to interact and be comfortable with police while understanding their importance within our community.
At Cops 4 Kids Day, officers show off the motorcycle unit, explain how the Forensics Unit uses science to solve crimes, talk about bike safety, and generally are available to the kids. We also host a police/teen basketball tournament, provide food from Wayside Chicken, ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s, a bounce house maze, DJ, and giveaways, which put smiles on many faces! The 2019 event will be held on Friday, April 26th, 4-6pm at the Boys & Girls Club on Cherry Avenue. This year's event is open to Boys & Girls Club members only, to help the department focus on building quality relationships with these members.
Cops 4 Kids is yet another opportunity for the department to connect in a positive way with the community. It is so important that young people begin to see police officers as leaders within their community that can be trusted and relied upon, as well as for police officers to get to know these youngest members of our community in a fun and relaxed setting. This program has been a continued success each year, and the CPF cannot make it happen without the B&GC program staff, the Charlottesville Police Officers, and donors like you, whose generosity and enthusiasm have kept this program running each year. CPF is so very grateful for your support.
