Comfort Dog

Help support the CPD's newest K-9 program as they add a "Comfort Dog," Yogi, to their ranks.

The Charlottesville Police Foundation is pleased to announce support of the CPD's new K-9 Comfort Dog Program. The Comfort Dog, Yogi (pictured), will be used by the department to further engage young people in schools to create impactful memories, humanize the role of the School Resource Officer, and serve as tool to help students release emotions. Yogi also will provide our officers a new avenue for stress relief, and allow them to advocate for victims of crime who may be exposed to traumatic and uncomfortable experiences.

Yogi will primarily be used in the school system, but the goal of this program is to also form working relationships with non-profits, such as the Virginia Institute of Autism and Special Olympics of Virginia to help give those with intellectual disabilities a way to form relationships and better communicate with our department, comfort sick children in our local hospitals, and engage our community at outreach events, such as Charlottesville Night Out.
